CERM History

Our Journey

The Centre for Environmental and Resource Management (CERM) was established at BUET in 2000 to address the growing environmental challenges in Bangladesh. With rapid industrialization and increasing pressure on limited natural resources, the need for sound environmental planning and management became critical. CERM was founded to build local expertise in environmental management and reduce reliance on foreign consultancy. The Centre is chaired by the Vice Chancellor of BUET and guided by a Board of Governors. Its activities are supported by experts from various departments at BUET and professional organizations. CERM works closely with industries, academia, international partners, and development agencies to promote sustainable development through training, research, and technical support.
The Vice Chancellor of BUET is the Chairperson of the Centre. The Centre is guided by the Board of Governors and run by the Director. While the activities of the CERM are administered by its staff, its professional inputs come from a team of experts drawn from various Departments/Centres/Institutes of BUET as well as from other competent professional organizations. CERM's working partners are Industries, Academicians, Foreign Institutions and International organizations.
