On 7 March 2026, the Centre for Environmental and Resource Management (CERM) successfully organized a one-day workshop titled “Overview of Environmental and Social Framework (ESF)” at ITN Seminar Room, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.

The program brought together senior officials from Project Implementation Units (PIUs), including Project Directors (PDs), Deputy Project Directors (DPDs), and Environmental and Social (E&S) consultants to strengthen their understanding of environmental and social risk management in development projects.
Throughout the day, participants explored key components of the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework, including its structure, Environmental and Social Standards (ESS), and the role of ESF in improving project outcomes. Sessions also covered the alignment of national environmental legislation with ESF requirements and practical approaches for integrating ESF principles across the project cycle.
The workshop featured expert-led sessions by distinguished resource persons, including Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Dr. Sheikh Mokhlesur Rahman, Mohammad Nurul Alam Siddique, and SM Zulkernine, who shared valuable insights on ESF standards, policy alignment, environmental and social instruments (such as ESIA, ESMP, ESMF, LMP, and SEP), and contractor management from an E&S perspective.
Participants actively engaged in discussions and a case study exercise, applying ESF concepts to a hypothetical project scenario to strengthen their practical understanding of environmental and social risk assessment and management.
The program concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, recognizing the participants’ commitment to strengthening environmental and social governance in development projects.
