The Centre for Environmental and Resource Management (CERM), BUET successfully organized the Cyber Security Diplomacy Thematic Workshop of the Dhaka Engineering Diplomacy Workshop 2026 on 27 August 2026 at the RISE Seminar Room, ECE Building, BUET.

Under the theme “Cyber Security Startups: Challenges and Opportunities in Bangladesh,” the workshop brought together experts and stakeholders to explore practical pathways for strengthening Bangladesh’s cybersecurity startup ecosystem, enhancing control over sensitive data and systems, preserving foreign currency, and creating opportunities for talented professionals within the country.
The workshop adopted a problem-focused and action-oriented approach, bringing together scientific, social, and institutional perspectives before moving into collaborative discussions on key constraints, decision pathways, tools, metrics, and actionable next steps.
A special acknowledgment goes to Dr. Shafiqul Islam, Tufts University, whose vision and initiative helped introduce and advance the Engineering Diplomacy platform in Bangladesh. The approach connects rigorous engineering and scientific reasoning with social, institutional, and political realities to develop solutions that are credible, acceptable, and feasible.
The Cyber Security Diplomacy workshop marks an important step toward building stronger collaboration among academia, government, industry, and other stakeholders to address emerging challenges and opportunities in Bangladesh’s cybersecurity landscape.
