Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman is a senior Professor, researcher, and consultant with over 47 years of extensive experience in teaching, research, and professional practice in civil and environmental engineering. His career reflects a sustained commitment to advancing water supply, sanitation, and environmental management both nationally and internationally. He is the co-author of the widely recognized textbook Water Supply and Sanitation: Rural and Low-Income Urban Communities, published by ITN-BUET, which is used as a reference text across technical universities in Bangladesh and in several institutions across Asia, Europe, North America, and Africa.
Dr. Rahman was instrumental in establishing ITN-BUET and served as Curricula Development Specialist (1996–2001), where he reoriented academic programs in water supply and waste management. He later served as Director of ITN-BUET (2003–2008), strengthening institutional capacity and fostering collaboration among academic institutions, government agencies, and development partners. He also led the establishment of the Center for Environmental and Resource Management (CERM) at BUET and served as its founding Director (2000–2005), where he contributed to the development of professional training programs on contemporary environmental issues. He has actively participated in international research collaborations, including a multi-country project involving Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Finland, focusing on environmental sanitation, public health, and socio-economic development in peri-urban coastal communities. Dr. Rahman continues to provide advisory support as a National Specialist in sanitation, water supply, and environmental management, serving as a member of the National Forum for the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Government of Bangladesh. He has also led numerous Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) for major development projects, contributing to sustainable and socially responsible planning and implementation.
