Dr. Nazrul Islam, PhD, PE is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), specializing in Structural Engineering. He received his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering from BUET, Dhaka, in 2007, followed by a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Civil (Structural) Engineering from the same institution, with a research emphasis on structural optimization.
Dr. Nazrul Islam began his academic career at BUET as a Lecturer immediately after completing his bachelor’s degree and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2011. Committed to advancing his expertise and serving the community, he pursued doctoral studies in Structural Mechanics at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, USA. His Ph.D. research focused on developing advanced constitutive models for room- and high-temperature applications in the fossil and nuclear power industries. During his doctoral studies, he contributed to research projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Science Foundation (NSF), and the Fossil Power division of Babcock and Wilcox Company, Ohio, USA. After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Islam returned to Bangladesh and rejoined BUET as an Assistant Professor, and he now serves as a Professor in the same department. He also holds a Professional Engineer (PE) license to practice Civil (Structural) Engineering in the State of North Carolina, USA.
