About the Learning Center

The Learning Center (LC) is a pivotal institution dedicated to fostering sustainable development through capacity building in Environmental and Social (ES) sustainability. It focuses on developing specialized curricula, delivering training programs, and fostering partnerships to strengthen the technical and institutional capabilities of implementing agencies.

With a vision to empower individuals and institutions involved in development projects across Bangladesh and Bhutan, the LC has evolved into a hub for learning, collaboration, and professional growth.

Brief History

The LC was initiated by the World Bank in response to capacity challenges during the implementation of the ESF in Bangladesh. Key challenges included gaps in staff expertise, differences between ESF and local laws, and weak monitoring frameworks. Resources were mobilized starting in FY22 to establish the LC and develop training modules aligned with ESF and global best practices.

Highlights include:

• Graduate-level 14-week course curriculum designed in FY22.
• LC operations commenced in FY23 with pilot training programs.
• Refined and updated curriculum delivered in FY24 along with multiple short training programs.
