The Training on “Specific Pollution Management Technologies to be Implemented in the ESMP for the Construction Sector” was successfully held on 21-22 September, 2025 at the CERM Seminar Room, BUET.
A total of 14 professionals (12 male and 2 female) from different sectors actively participated in the program, reflecting diverse expertise and perspectives. The two-day program focused on practical applications of pollution management technologies within Environmental and Social Standard 3 (ESS3), addressing key challenges in the construction sector such as air emissions, waste management, and resource efficiency. The training enabled participants to gain hands-on knowledge in aligning construction practices with ESS requirements, national environmental regulations, and sustainable development goals.
The program was graced by the presence of Prof. Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of BUET, who delivered the Keynote Session, emphasizing the importance of integrating pollution management technologies into infrastructure projects to ensure environmental compliance and long-term sustainability. He stated, "As environmental safeguard guidelines and technologies continue to evolve, it is Imperative that we adapt accordingly. Regardless of the challenges we may face, we must always uphold our integrity".
Mr. Iqbal Ahmed, Senior Environmental Specialist at the World Bank, also honored the event with his presence, sharing valuable insights on international best practices and World Bank safeguards in pollution management and environmental sustainability.
Participants actively engaged in technical discussions, group work, and presented their reflections on applying these pollution management technologies in real-world contexts. Their contributions highlighted the growing capacity to implement innovative, compliant, and sustainable construction practices.
The event concluded with a certificate awarding ceremony graced by Prof. Dr. Sheikh Mokhlesur Rahman, Director of CERM, BUET. Heartfelt appreciation goes to CERM, BUET, and the World Bank for their continuous efforts in advancing expertise on environmental and social safeguards. This training reaffirmed a strong commitment to knowledge exchange, professional development, and sustainable construction management in Bangladesh.
